THE PROMISE OF REDEMPTION

MGM DAILY DEVOTIONAL

SCRIPTURE:
GENESIS 3:15 (KJV)
“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” — Genesis 3:15 (KJV)

The story of redemption reveals God’s unfailing purpose to rescue humanity from sin. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, sin entered the world and brought separation between humanity and the Creator. Yet God did not abandon humanity to the consequences of sin without hope. Even in the midst of judgment, He gave a promise that pointed forward to the coming of Jesus Christ, who would defeat the power of the enemy.

Genesis 3:15 is often understood as the first promise of the gospel. The reference to the woman’s Seed points forward to Christ, who came into the world to accomplish God’s redemptive plan. Jesus did not come merely to improve human behaviour or provide temporary comfort. He came to deal with the problem of sin. Through His sinless life, sacrificial death on the Cross, and glorious resurrection, He accomplished what humanity could never achieve through its own strength.

At Calvary, Jesus willingly suffered and gave His life for sinners. What appeared to be a victory for the forces of darkness became the place where God’s saving purpose was powerfully revealed. Christ bore our sins, died, and rose again, opening the way for forgiveness and reconciliation with God. Our hope is not based on human ability, religious activities, or personal righteousness. It rests on what Jesus has accomplished for us.

However, understanding God’s promise of redemption must lead us to respond. We cannot celebrate Christ’s victory while deliberately choosing to remain in rebellion against God. Our responsibility is to repent sincerely, turn away from sin, put our faith in Jesus Christ, and walk in obedience to His Word. Repentance does not mean that we save ourselves; it means that we stop defending our sinful ways and surrender to the One who has provided our salvation.

Beloved, never allow your past failures to convince you that God’s redemptive work is beyond your reach. Come to Christ in genuine repentance and faith. At the same time, do not treat His sacrifice lightly by returning willingly to the sins from which He came to save you. Let the reality of the Cross shape your decisions, your relationships, your speech, and your conduct.

God promised redemption, and Jesus Christ fulfilled God’s saving purpose through His death and resurrection. Our part is to receive His grace through faith, repent of our sins, and live as people who belong to Him. The victory of Christ should give us hope, but it should also call us to a life of holiness and faithful obedience.
