THE LAMB OF GOD WHO TAKES AWAY SIN

MGM DAILY DEVOTIONAL

SCRIPTURE:
JOHN 1:29 (KJV)
“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” — John 1:29 (KJV)

When John the Baptist saw Jesus approaching, he introduced Him as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. This declaration revealed the purpose for which Jesus came into the world. He did not come merely to teach people how to live morally or to establish another religious movement. He came to deal with the problem of sin and accomplish God’s plan of redemption.

Throughout the Old Testament, lambs were offered as sacrifices under the law. These sacrifices pointed to the seriousness of sin and the need for atonement. However, Jesus Christ came as the perfect and final sacrifice through whom forgiveness and reconciliation with God would be made possible. Unlike the sacrifices offered repeatedly, Jesus willingly gave His own life on the Cross. His death was sufficient to accomplish the work of redemption, and His resurrection confirmed His victory over death.

The words “which taketh away the sin of the world” remind us that sin is not a problem we can solve through human strength alone. Good behaviour, religious activities, and personal achievements cannot replace the sacrifice of Christ. We need a Saviour, and God has provided Him in Jesus. Through His death and resurrection, the way has been opened for sinners to receive forgiveness and enter into a restored relationship with God.

However, recognising Jesus as the Lamb of God must lead to a personal response. We cannot celebrate His sacrifice while deliberately holding on to the sins He calls us to abandon. Genuine repentance requires us to acknowledge our wrongdoing, turn away from sinful practices, and place our faith in Christ. We must stop making excuses for disobedience and allow God’s Word to correct our attitudes, decisions, and conduct.

Beloved, consider what the Lamb of God has done for you. Jesus bore the cost of redemption so that you could be forgiven and reconciled to God. Do not treat His sacrifice as an ordinary story or assume that grace gives you permission to continue in sin. When you fall, acknowledge your wrongdoing, confess it to God, and turn back to Him in faith. Let your gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice produce a life of holiness, humility, love, and obedience.

Today, look to Jesus, the Lamb of God. Your hope is not in your ability to make yourself righteous but in what Christ has accomplished for you. He gave His life to deal with the problem of sin; your responsibility is to repent, believe in Him, and live in obedience to His Word. Let the Cross remain at the centre of your faith and the foundation of your daily walk with God.
